Austin Daye, the Pistons new rookie player, made an immediate impact in the Pistons 87-83 victory over the Heat. Daye chased down Dwyane Wade in the second quarter to block what had appeared to be an uncontested layup. The play brought echos of the Tayshaun Prince play in the 2004 playoffs against the Indiana Pacers. The game also marked the return of Ben Wallace after three seasons away from the team. Wallace scored the teams first points on a dunk off a put-back. Other players with significant contributions to the Pistons victory were Ben Gordon and Chris Wallace, who each scored 11 points in the game. The Pistons were in command of the game for the majority of the contest, leading by as many as 17 points during the second half. The Heat made a late run during the fourth quarter, but the new Pistons held on for the victory and a good start to their pre-season.
